Originally based in Vancouver, the Grizzlies were one of the two Canadian expansion franchises (alongside the Toronto Raptors) to join the NBA in 1995. They were immediately one of the worst teams in the league, winning no more than 19 games in each of their first 4 seasons and finishing at the bottom of their divisional standings in 5 of the 6 years they spent in Vancouver. This prolonged losing streak resulted in reduced game attendance and the franchise relocated in 2001, and officially became the Memphis Grizzlies.
In Memphis, the team drafted forward Pau Gasol, the Memphis Grizzlies’ first all-star player, and hired basketball icon Jerry West as general manager. Memphis Grizzlies Ticket Holders saw an immediately improved team. In the 2003–2004 season, Memphis won 50 games (a 22-win improvement from the previous season) to earn team’s first playoff berth in franchise history. The Grizzlies lost in their opening post-season series that year and experienced the same fate the following 2 years. In 2008, the team began a rebuilding effort.
Memphis Grizzlies Ticket Holders saw their team return to post-season play in 2011. Memphis upset the top-seeded San Antonio Spurs in 6 games to record its first playoff series victory. The following season, a young, defensive-minded squad advanced to the conference finals for the first time in team history, where the Grizzlies lost to the Spurs. Memphis continued to qualify for the playoffs in the following years, but in the 2017–2018 season the team posted a losing record due to an aging roster and a team beset by injuries.
Memphis Grizzlies fans can get their tickets to the team’s home games held at FedExForum from Golden Tickets.
